Bookish Stuff #12
a short edition this week with two book reviews, reading stats and the new book of the moment
This week, I have a shorter Bookish Stuff edition for you. As you can see with my stats below for October, I haven’t read as much, so I do not have as many reviews to share, but I will have some more pending for upcoming editions. In addition to my October reading stats, I have two book reviews, one for a children’s book and I have the new book of the moment for Shelf Help Club.
When I was younger, I wanted to be a vet. I probably wanted to be many other things, but I can’t remember those. Growing up, I couldn’t answer the question of what I wanted to be when I grew up. To this day, I’m not able to answer the question. I’ve been bouncing from one job to another. Three and a half years is the longest I’ve been in one job, and I’m on my third career path.
When I saw that Literally PR was doing a book tour for Move Up or Move On, I wanted to see what these authors had to say. I love personality tests, so I was sold when I saw a diagnostic tool and a career-focused personality test to be completed at the beginning of the book. I found these tests to be thought-provoking and helpful in the results provided. These results were then referred back to at points throughout the book. I did some of the other exercises the authors gave, but the tests were my favourites.
I’ve read a few career growth books, but they tend to focus on a target audience. This book, on the other hand, seemed inclusive of any role at any level. I found the author’s style engaging and relatable, especially with the real-life examples. It is a book I’d pick up again. I’d recommend it to anyone considering their career development and whether they want a change.
Ignore the pages read graph. I’m not very good at inputting these when I read. I like throwing it all in at the same time. The rest of the stats are true to what my October has been like. I knew I wasn’t reading as much by the end of September, so I expected to have a lower read number this month. Even so, I’m pretty happy with finishing five books. One was over 500 pages, contributing to my not reading as many books.
I purchased this for my little niece but couldn’t give it to her without having a peek. It's a cute ten-page book with sliders and a mirror hiding on the last page. It was fun and made me giggle for a couple of minutes. I know little Iz is growing up fast, but she's still a fan of peek-a-boo.
It’s a new book of the moment with Shelf Help Club. I felt a sense of relief when I received it in the post. Even though I love Christmas, the darker months and winter have never been my favourite time of the year. I look forward to seeing what
has to say and forming a better relationship in the coming months. I will be putting the activities into practice, and I’ll be writing my reflections as I go along.Coming soon in upcoming editions of Bookish Stuff:
I have a book that I have DNF’d and reflect on my ebook reading goal.
I have my thoughts on How To Build A World Class Substack.
A piece of bookmail
Two purchases added to my TBR Challenge
Until next time
Happy Reading
Tami
My 2yo would like the pumpkin book - we got him the Spot Halloween book which is peek a boo and he enjoyed that. I love all of Suzy Reading's books and this new one sounds right up my street, I think I'll have to treat myself to it!
