Disney was a part of my life growing up. However, I’m embracing my love of Disney now more than ever. There was no hesitation when we saw the advert for Disney on Ice. As soon as we were able, we booked tickets, £48.88 each, and excitement bloomed.
We attended the Sunday morning performance. We arrived in plenty of time to go to the loo, grab a drink (£3 for a bottle of water), and check on the merchandise before finding our seats. My friend purchased a programme for £14. It was mostly photos, but the target audience would be the younger generation.
When booking, you could see the shape of where the ice rink would be, but we couldn't tell where the main viewpoint would be. Once we were in our seats, we were happy. We could see everything. When the characters were on the rink, we could see their faces and saw that some skaters were joining the speech and songs.
In the first half, Micky and Minnie hosted, giving clues as to which Disney story was coming.
Each story had different lengths on stage. Some gave us three or four scenes showcasing the main storyline, while others had one. No matter what, I had a big smile on my face the whole time.
Aladdin
I know the story of Aladdin. I’m reasonably sure I have seen the film at some point. This was one of the more extended features. There were plenty of characters and props. How they condensed the story down to a few scenes was done beautifully.
Beauty and the Beast
I wouldn’t be surprised if this film is up towards the top of my review journey when I get to the 1990s. I love Beauty and the Beast. I think that’s because I resonated with Belle's being a bookworm. There was a slight disappointment of not seeing the Beast, but, as with all the others, a beautiful performance.
Moana
The music made us sing and have a dance party in our seats. The skaters have fantastic talent, especially skating in big costumes.
Little Mermaid
It took me a moment to understand which Disney story this one was. Not sure why. But once Prince Eric’s name was mentioned, Little Mermaid came into my head. Never mind skating on ice but doing tricks as well. The trust to have in your partner! And Flounder. He was the cutest. Out of all the characters, he got the most significant AWE response. He was one of my favourites.
In the first half, we see Rapunzel (Tangled) in a scene with her beloved. It was awe-inspiring. There was a fifteen-minute interval. A good thing about where we were sat was that we could get straight up and out to the loo before the long queue started.
The second half saw my other favourite character come out with Micky and Minnie. Goofy.
Cinderella
One of the Disney films that I have already reviewed. It is currently in my top five, and this performance was perfect. The carriage was stunning.
Coco
I haven’t seen Coco. With Micky, Minnie, and Goofy’s help, I got the idea for the story. Though a long way off in my film-watching journey, I’m looking forward to experiencing the music again.
This half of the show also showcased Tiana with her beloved in a scene. But also Sleeping Beauty. This had a few scenes. The character costumes and effects in this one were explosive! I was catching flies. The fire, on the ice, and the dragon were terrific. I was slightly scared afterwards to see what appeared to be puddles, but you would never have guessed with the skaters' skills.
Frozen
Would it be Disney if it didn’t showcase Frozen? No, it would not. I believe this was the longest performance of all the performances, and Let It Go was sung by the majority of the hall. It was a great way to finish off the show.
A show wouldn’t be a show if all the characters came onto the ice rink at the end.
Each part of the show was approximately 45 minutes in length. Although I could have watched for longer, it was the right amount to get the most enjoyment from it. It is a show I would see again.
Big smiles
